Odisha police release guidelines for bursting of firecrackers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Friday released a circular regarding bursting of firecrackers during Diwali following the directive of the Supreme Court.

DGP RP Sharma released the circular during a press meet imposed time restrictions on burning firecrackers during the ensuring Diwali festival.

“People will be allowed to burst crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali and restrictions will be imposed at sensitive places,” Sharma said.

Notably, the apex court on Tuesday refused to impose a blanket ban on the sale of firecrackers and said that only green crackers with reduced emission and decibel levels will be permitted during all religious festivals. The SC fixed time slot for burning of firecrackers.

The top court said people will be allowed to burn crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali. On New Year and Christmas, the timing is from 11.45 pm to 12.15 am.

The SC’s verdict came in response to a plea seeking a ban on the manufacturing and sale of firecrackers across the country to curb air pollution during Diwali which falls on November 7 this year.
