Kendrapara: Odisha Police arrested notorious criminal and a close aide of arrested gangster Tito, Bhabani Shankar Sahoo alias Babu Sahoo after a brief encounter near Ichhapur-Chhagaria Road here in Odisha in the wee hours of Monday.
Acting on a tip-off about the movement of Babu towards Ichhapur from Chhagaria, a joint team of Kendrapara police and STF tried to intercept him.
However, Babu first opened fire at the cops following which the police retaliated and fired back. The criminal sustained bullet injuries on his right leg during the encounter, police sources said. Police also seized a gun and a motorbike from Babu’s possession.
Babu was initially rushed to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to police sources, Babu is a sharpshooter of Tito gang and over 50 criminal cases have been pending against him at different police stations in the state.
On July 6, dreaded criminal and a close aide of gangster Tito, Chagala Mallick was killed in an encounter with police at Nabaghanpur village under Sadar police limits in Nayagarh district.
