Kendrapara: “You can separate two lovers by distance but you can never break the bridge that connects their hearts, no matter where they are in the world.” This saying became reality for two lovebirds of Kajalabandha village under Pattamundai police limits of the district.

According to reports, Runu Mallick (20), daughter of Maheswar Mallick of the village, was in relationship with Nabaghan Mallick (26) of the same village. Both of them informed their parents about their relationship and expressed their willingness to marry each other. However, Runu’s family was opposing their relationship, following which Runu and Nabaghan had eloped from the village on May 10.

Later, Maheswar had filed a complaint with the local police. Based on Maheswar’s allegation, cops had begun an investigation into the matter. But after knowing that Runu’s father had filed a case, the lovebirds surrendered before the police and expressed their readiness to marry, yesterday.

In a bid to resolve the issue, Pattamundai police station IIC Pramod Mallick called the family members of the boy and girl and tried to convince them to allow the duo to marry. However, as Runu’s parents opposed vehemently, Pramod informed about the matter to Subash Khatua, the local Sarapanch.

Later, both the police officials and Sarapanch arranged the young couple’s marriage in the temple adjacent of the police station as per the law.

Protesting the marriage, the Runu’s parents went away from the spot. “We have nothing to say about her (Runu’s) marriage. She said that she loved him for the last six years and now already married. She will be responsible for her life and anything that may happen later,” said her father.

On the other hand, expressing her gratefulness to the IIC, the newlywed bride said, “We were in relationship. But as my parents opposed our relationship, we took the help of the police and now got married. We are grateful to IIC sir Pramod Mallick for helping us.”

Speaking about the incident, the IIC said, “Maheswar Mallick had filed a missing case of her daughter. But when we knew about the long relationship between the boy and girl, we tried to convince their parents to permit them to marry. However, the girl’s family did not agree for the marriage. Later, we arranged the marriage of Runu and Nabaghan as per the law.”

Meanwhile, Runu and Nabaghan’s marriage has become the talk of the town with people of all walks of life appreciating the initiative of the police officials to unite two hearts.
