Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a Police ASI thrashed a minor boy for calling him ‘Mamu’ at Panasapadia village under Nischintakoili Police Station limits of Cuttack district.

A fourth class student was reportedly returning home after attending classes at his school this afternoon. On his way, he saw a team of cops passing through the route in the police van and called them ‘mamu’. ‘Mamu’ (meaning mother’s brother) is fondly used to refer to the police in many parts of India. This angered Nischintakoili Police Station ASI Bhagaban Sahoo, who was in the van. Soon he got down from the vehicle, scolded the student using slang and even thrashed him.

When the news of Nischintakoili Police Station ASI beating the minor boy spread in the area, more than a hundred residents of the locality protested the incident and staged a road blockade on the Cuttack-Cahandbali route.

Later, they lifted the road-blockade following the intervention of the local administration.
