Puri: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Odisha police was on Friday detained for allegedly raping a married woman.
The accused, identified as Chitaranjan Das, is posted as ASI at Balanga Police Station in Odisha’s Puri district.
On Thursday, a woman lodged a complaint with Pipili SDPO alleging that ASI Chitaranjan Das had sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
As per her FIR, the survivor alleged that she had approached Balanga Police to seek justice in connection with a family dispute. However, the accused ASI allegedly called her to his quarters on the pretext of resolving the matter and raped her, she complained.
Meanwhile, the woman’s family members, along with the local residents had gathered outside the police station and surrounded it to press their demand for stringent action against the accused.
