Odisha pays tributes to Utkal Gouraba Madhusudan Das on birth anniversary

Bhubaneswar: People of all sorts of life across the state paid their rich tributes to Utkal Gouraba Madhusudan Das on his 170th birth anniversary across the state on Saturday.

Taking to his Twitter handle Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid tribute to the legendary leader who is also one of the greatest pioneers of modern Odisha.

Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik also paid his tribute through a sand art on Puri sea beach.

Members of the Orissa High Court Bar Association also organised a special function to observe the day as Lawyers’ Day in Cuttack.

The Orissa High Court Chief Justice Vineet Saran and other dignitaries and members of the Bar Association attended the special function where they paid tributes to state’s first barrister.

Madhusudan Das, who was the first Odia to get a degree of M.A. B.L. from Calcutta University, was born to Raghunath Das and Parvati Devi at Satyabhamapur near Salepur in Cuttack district on April 28, 1848.

Acclaimed as a great legislator and journalist, Das was the first Odia to be the member of Legislative Council and Member of Central Legislative Assembly. He was also the first Odia to sail overseas.
