Odisha Panchayat Polls: SEC to hold meeting with all District Collectors & SPs today

Bhubaneswar: The state election commission will hold a virtual meeting with all the District Collectors and the SPs today regarding the Odisha Panchayat Polls.

Reportedly, the meeting will also be attended by the Chief Secretary, Development Commissioner, Home Secretary, DGP, Health Secretary and Secretary to the Panchayati Raj.

The Election Commission is likely to ask the district collector to make a joint master plan to conduct elections at the district level.

The SEC is also likely to direct to make sure that the code of conduct as well the Covid guidelines get strictly followed during the panchayat election.

During the meeting, the focus will be given on the safety of ballot paper till it reaches the respective polling stations and also on the security of voting box.

Similarly, the information provided by the candidates will be closely scrutinized.

The nominations for the panchayat elections will be submitted from the January 17 to January 21 following which the final list of candidates will be released on January 25.

It is to be noted that the panchayat elections will be held in five phases from February 16. The political parties are gearing up to reach out to the public through digital campaigns.
