Odisha Panchayat Polls: District Collectors propose re-polling in 25 booths

Bhubaneswar: The district collectors have sent a proposal to State Election Commission to conduct polls in the 25 booths again, informed SEC Secretary Rabindra Sahu.

Reportedly, violence surfaced at some booths during the first phase elections due to which re-polling has been proposed.

The proposals for re-polling have been made for 11 places in Jajpur, five in Puri, four in Dhenkanal, and five in Bhadrak. The SEC will review the proposal and take an appropriate decision.

The State Election Commission held a meeting with the police DG on Wednesday after the violence during the first phase elections. Hence, the State Election Commission (SEC) has tightened security measures during the polls tomorrow.

The second phase of the Panchayat elections will be held at 20,436 booths of 1514 panchayats among which 3,065 are sensitive booths in 186 Zilla Parishad zones of 68 blocks in 30 districts.

It is to be noted that as many as 62,10,000 people will cast their votes. The polling parties have already been sent to the polls on Wednesday for the second phase of the election.

The campaigning for the second round of voting ended last evening. Adding to it, about 70 percent of votes were cast.
