Odisha Panchayat Elections: Re-polling in 49 booths today

Bhubaneswar: Re-polling of Odisha Panchayat polls will be held today at 49 booths across the state including Jajpur, Puri and Bhadrak districts.

The election process was disrupted at these districts due to violence and other reasons during the second phase of polling.

The voting will be held from 9 AM to 3 PM on February 23, the SEC said.

The Odisha State Election Commission has decided to carry out re-polling at a total of 75 booths where the voting process was suspended during the first three phases of Panchayat elections in the State.

Similarly, repolling for 30 booths in the third phase of elections will be held on February 25.

Meanwhile, polling for the fourth phase of the elections in 64 Blocks of 27 districts has been completed on Tuesday.

It is to be noted here that the three-tier panchayat election is being held in five phases – February 16, February 18, February 20, February 22 and February 24, while the counting of votes will take place on February 26, 27 and 28.

Notably, the first three phases of the Odisha Panchayat polls particularly the third phase, was marred by several instances of poll violence, rigging and booth capturing.
