Bhubaneswar: The third and final day of the vote counting for the three-tier Odisha Panchayat elections will be held today.

Reportedly, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was leading also at the end of the second day of the Odisha Panchayat Election result like it was on the first day of vote counting.

The vote counting will be done for 229 seats today. On the second day, counting was done for 306 seats. Among the total seats on Sunday, BJD again won with the highest number followed by BJP, Congress, and OTH.

The ruling party, BJD, has again proved its mettle in the polls while the saffron party has failed to retain a majority of the seats it won in the 2017 polls.

Each counting table has one counting supervisor, two counting assistants, and a fourth class employee. The election officials have a separate table. The ballot papers will be segregated by colours following which the bundles of 50 will be made for the counting.

While the polling had been peaceful for the most part, in some areas the voters had boycotted the polls to highlight their agitation and demands. Similarly in other areas, violence and rigging had led to chaotic situations.

It is to be noted that, the Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday announced that the election for 109 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state will be held on March 24.
