Odisha: Newly elected Legislators to take oath today

Bhubaneswar: The newly elected legislators will take the oath of office and secrecy on Friday as the members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly here. Pro-tem Speaker Amar Prasad Sathpathy will administer the oath.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new MLAs will continue on Friday as a total of 146 have to be administered the oath. Of the new MLAs, 112 are from Biju Janta Dal (BJD), 23 from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), nine from Congress, one from Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPM) and an Independent.

While the Odisha Legislative Assembly has 147 seats, elections for Patakura constituency had to be postponed twice- first following the death of the BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla and then due to Cyclone Fani.

On Wednesday, BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of the state for a record fifth time at the IDCO grounds in Bhubaneswar. Along with him Parliamentary Affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh and other members took the oath of office and secrecy during the special session.
