Odisha: Nandankanan Zoo welcomes 7 more anaconda snakelets

Bhubaneswar: As many as seven anaconda snakelets were born at Nandankanan zoo in Bhubaneswar. This was informed by the authorities of Nandankanan Zoological Park here today.

According to reports, after overnight observation of the anaconda again x-ray was taken to all 3 female and the mother anaconda which had given birth one snakelet on Thursday were given RL and calcium to assist delivery.

After not getting birth, the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) expert Dr Indramani Nath, HOD surgery and Dr Vijay Sahoo Prof Gynecology were called to guide the zoo vets in delivering snakelets.

Oxytocin was administered and ultrasonography was done to ascertain the status of foetus live or dead. In OT one snake let which was obstructing the birth passage was assisted delivery and snakelets were given artificial respiration to revive it.

With the second dose of oxytocin, the mother was shifted again to reptile Park enclosure for giving birth without disturbance and around 5.30 PM 6 live and 1 stillborn snakelet were born.

The veterinary team attended all the snakelet for post birth care and now 8 live anaconda snakelets are kept in individual boxes under control Environment for temperature and humidity.

The mother anaconda is also kept under observation.
