Odisha Municipal Election: Repolling in Bhadrak, Nabarangpur today

Bhubaneswar: A day after the Odisha Municipal Election was over, the re-polling is being held at 3 booths in Bhadrak while at one booth in Nabarangpur.

Reportedly, the re-polling has begun at 10 am at booths 65 and 66 in ward number 24 of Dhamnagar.

Earlier on March 24, a youth, identified as Ramesh Kumar Lenka, has been stabbed by some unidentified miscreants with a sharp weapon outside a polling booth of Dhamnagar NAC in Bhadrak.

The incident took place allegedly due to an altercation over casting vote sustaining severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) and is undergoing treatment. The enraged locals staged a road blockade in the area by burning tyres and also broke the EVM machine.

Similarly, SEC is also holding repolling at booth No-14 of ward No-8 under Umerkote Municipality in Nabarangpur. The repolling was hampered yesterday due to glitches in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) as it was showing the name and symbol of a candidate for Nabarangpur Municipality instead of the Umerkote Municipality.

Notably, the counting of votes and declaration of results will be held on March 26, 2022.

Adding to it, the voting for the Odisha Municipal Elections has ended with 65% polling in the urban local bodies (Municipalities and NACs). Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 50% polling while Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) recorded 65% polling. Similarly, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) recorded 47% polling.
