Odisha Municipal Elections: Voting ends with 65% polling, 50% in BMC

Bhubaneswar: The voting for the Odisha Municipal Elections has ended on Thursday evening with 65% polling in the urban local bodies (Municipalities and NACs), informed State Election Commissioner (SEC) Aditya Prasad Padhi in a press meet.

Reportedly, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 50% polling while Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) recorded 65% polling. Similarly, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) recorded 47% polling.

SEC Padhi added that the election was held for 47 Municipalities, 59 NACs, and 3 Municipal Corporations across the State. A total of 40.55 lakh voters exercised their franchise in 4,360 booths.

He further added that in a few booths the EVM machines reportedly had issues due to which the voting process was delayed. The polling was postponed in Umerkote due to issues in the ballot paper in one of the Wards. “The election in Ward No. 8 of Umerkote will be held tomorrow,” he said.

Notably, around 45 per cent voting for the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) was recorded till 3 noon while 32 per cent voting for the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) was recorded till 12 noon.
