Odisha Municipal Elections 2022: 45 per cent polling recorded till 3 PM

Bhubaneswar: Secretary of State Election Commission (SEC), Odisha informed that 45 per cent voting for the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) was recorded till 3 PM.

According to the report of the Secretary of SEC, nearly 21 per cent of voter turnout has been recorded in 3 municipal corporations – Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) – till 12 PM. Whereas, a total of 32 per cent voting for the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) was recorded till 12 noon.

The voting for the 106 Urban Local Bodies and three municipal corporations of the State which began at 8 AM will continue till 5 PM.

Over 40.55 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. As many as 6411 candidates are in the fray for the election. While 569 candidates are contesting for the post of chairperson and mayor, 5,842 candidates are there for the election to councillor and corporator seat.

Meanwhile, separate cases of poll violence have also been reported in Ward number 9 of Dhamnagar NAC in Bhadrak and in Khandapada block of Nayagarh.
