Odisha MLA Kishore Mohanty dies of heart attack

Bhubaneswar: Former Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly and current MLA of Brajarajnagar constituency Kishore Mohanty died due to a heart attack on Thursday. He was 63.

According to reports, the four-time MLA was rushed to a private hospital in Jharsuguda soon after he suffered a cardiac arrest this evening. However, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The 61-year-old politician first became the MLA from the Jharsuguda assembly constituency in 1990 from the Janata Dal ticket. Later, he won the same constituency twice between 2000 and 2009 in Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket.

Besides, Mohanty was the Government Chief Whip for four years from 2004 to 2008.  He also was the Speaker of the State Assembly from 2008 to 2009.

People from all walks of life including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik mourned the sad demise of Mohanty.
