Odisha: Maoists ask people not to use mobile phones in Malkangiri village

Malkangiri: Maoists have directed the people,  who are residing at Arapadar village in Swabhiman area of Odisha’s Malkngiri district , not to use mobile phones.

“ Please don’t use mobile phones in this village. Don’t make a phone call without permission. Whoever makes a call shall be responsible for his action,” the left wing militants wrote in Odia in a sign board near the village.

Earlier, the red ultras distributed leaflets in villages in the Swabhiman area containing the threat: “Don’t use mobile phone. Persons ignoring this directive will be punished in the Praja court”.

Villagers alleged that the Maoists thrashed mercilessly to some youths in recent past after they recovered mobile phones from latter’s possession.

“The Maoists have asked us not to use mobile phones for which we face lots of difficulties. We can’t call for a help even during medical emergency,” said a villager on conditions of anonymity.
