Odisha Man Sarbajit killed in Mumbai’s Kamala Mills Fire Tragedy

Mumbai:  A person from Odisha and thirteen others died in the massive fire in a building in Kamala Mills compound in Lower Parel area of the city in the early hours today. At least 12 of the 14 dead are women, according to BMC officials.

The man from Odisha has been identified as Sarbajit Parida, son of Samarendra Parida. He was a resident of Badapatpur village in Nilagiri block of Balasore district.

24-year-old Sarbajit was working at a restaurant at the top floor of the building, where the fire broke out.

At least 20 people who sustained injuries are admitted to KEM, Bhatia and Airoli burns hospitals.The KEM hospital officials have confirmed that the death in the tragedy was due to suffocation in the crammed place engulfed in smoke and fire.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Fire safety clearances and other permissions given to the pub and resto-bars in the Trade Centre building are now in question.

Sources said, Mumbai’s civic body had been warned just months ago about deadly violations in the four-storey building at Kamala Mills where the fire at a rooftop restaurant left 14 dead.
