Odisha man returning from Gujarat’s Surat dies in bus

Bhubaneswar: A migrant worker from Odisha, who was returning from Gujarat’s Surat in a bus, died in the vehicle in Chhattisgarh in the wee hours of Saturday amid nationwide lockdown for coronavirus outbreak.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Narayanpur village in Suroda area of Odisha’s Ganjam district. The reason of his death was not ascertained.

Chhattisgarh police detained the bus and started investigation into the matter, when the last reports came in.

According to reports, over 170 persons were returning to the state from Surat in three buses after taking permission from Surat district adminstration.

Earlier on April 30, a total of 217 migrant workers arrived in Seragarh and Dharakote in Ganjam district from Surat.

Sources said, as many as eight lakh Odia migrants have been staying in Surat. Majority of them were working in textile mills in the coastal city of Gujarat.
