Odisha Man Dupes Customers Over Rs 5 Crore On Pretext Of Recharging Mobile And TV, Arrested

Cuttack: The Cuttack Sadar Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly duping customers over Rs 5 Crore on the pretext of recharging mobile phones and TVs. The arrestee has been identified as Bipra Prasad Swain.

According to reports, one Gyan Ranjan of Darghapatana under Madhupatana police limits alleged that one mobile recharge company named “Sangvi Enterprisers” owned by Sabita Swain and his son Bipra Prasad Swain has cheated the people to a tune of Rs 5 crore in the name to provide mobile recharge service for a year.

The accused Bipra Prasad Swain reportedly formed one one-line company in the name of Sangvi Enterprises Ltd at Dibati in Cuttack and by engaging some agents collected huge amount of money recharge of their mobile SIM and TV channel as per the beneath the plan.

Customers after depositing the money got services for 5 to 6 months and after then such benefit got stopped. The accused Swain by thus practicing this type of fraud had earned crores of rupees for Mobile recharge annual offer for Rs 999, for mobile recharge annual and half-year offer for Rs 1299, and for TV Channel recharge annual offer of Rs 1499.

In course of the investigation, a raid was conducted and the accused was arrested. The entire computer system installed in the office of the accused were seized which was purely used by him for purpose of cheating tot the people.

As many as 7 hard disks, 6 CPUs, 7 VDUs, 6 keyboards, 3 mouse and 6 UPSs were seized from his possessions. Besides, a luxurious car was also seized.

A case was registered against him under different sections of the IPC, I.T Act and Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.

Further investigation into the matter is underway to arrest other accused persons.
