Odisha makes Odia signage mandatory

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet gave green signal for 17 proposals during its meeting at the state Secretariat on Wednesday including Odia signage mandatory in S\shops and commercial establishments.

According to reports the Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the required changes in the Orissa Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1956 and its Rules, 1958, making it mandatory for all shops and commercial establishments to have Odia signage. They have been given one month of time to change their sign boards.

It said that the violators will pay fine between Rs 1000-5000. However, they will have to pay fine between Rs 2000-25000 if found violating the guidelines for second time.

The Cabinet also gave its nod for forming 8000 ‘Biju Yuva Vahini’ in 6800 Panchayats and 130 Urban Local Bodies in the state.
