Odisha: Magha Saptami Observed Amid Strict Covid Restrictions

Gop: Today is the seventh day of the holy month of ‘Magha’. ‘Magha Mela’ is being held amid the corona restrictions. Keeping in mind the crowds, the Puri administration has imposed Sec.144 in and around the area.

However, with the introduction of the Magh Bud with 500 devotees, Section 17 has been issued by the administration. Section 144 will remain in force until 1 p.m.

As per the order of the district administration, the prohibitory order will come into effect from 11 AM of February 18 and remain in force till 1 PM of February 19. Locals have been warned against taking the holy dip in Chandrabhaga.

However, according to tradition the presiding deities of Konark, Lord Tribeniswara, Lord Aisaneswara and Lord Dakhineswara, will embark on a grand procession to the Tirtha Mandap at Chandrabhaga and take the customary dip as per the rituals.
Four section forces have been deployed around the pond for security. One additional SP, five DSPs, 14 IICs, 60 AICs and 200 home guards. Three exhaustive traffic arrangements have been made.
As per the religious belief taking a holy dip at Chadrabhaga on this auspicious day, which falls every year on the 7th day of the waxing phase of moon in Odia calendar month of ‘Magha’, cures all diseases and cleanses the devotee of all sins.
Both Sun God and Lord Shiva are worshipped during the ‘Magha Mela’ which is held at Konark on this day also.
