Odisha: Locals hold ‘Prajameli’ in Malkangiri, demand new GP

Malkangiri: People of Swabhiman Anchal (earlier known as cut-off area) organised a huge ‘Prajameli’ (Public meeting) at Muduliguda village under Chitrakonda block in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Wednesday.

Thousands of people from five panchyats including Nakamamudi, Jantri and Panasput participated in the ‘Prajameli’ protesting alleged lackadaisical attitude of the district administrations in providing basic amenities to them.

“Nakamamudi gram panchayat (GP) has 54 villages. People of some villages have to travel around 70 km to reach the panchayat headquarter as to collect PDS ration and other purposes. We are using country boats by risking our lives to cross Chitrakonda reservoir to reach the panchyat office,” said a resident Khajuriguda village.

“School teachers, Anganwadi workers are not coming to our village due to lack of road connectivity,” said another villager.

In the ‘Prajameli’, locals demanded for forming a new gram panchayat at Muduliguda with the bifurcation of Nakamamudi GP.

The villagers also told if their demand is not fulfilled soon, they would intensify their agitation in the days ahead.
