Odisha: Locals detain Hyva Truck driver following elderly man’s death in road accident

Cuttack: Irate locals detained the driver of a Hyva Truck after it hit an elderly man causing his death at Palisahi village under Mahanga block of the district today.

According to reports, a sand-laden Hyva Truck named Mahima Prabhu Krupa, bearing registration number OD 02 AK 6619, hit an elderly man on the road causing his death at the spot.

The vehicle hit the deceased person, who was identified as Dhruba Charan Swain of Hatapada village, while he was returning to his home after shopping.

Fumed over Swain’s death, a group of locals caught hold of the truck driver, Ganesh Sahoo of Gadamundei village under Salepur police station limits, alleging that he was drunk and detained him. Besides, they blocked the road demanding action against Sahoo. Some of the locals even vented their ire by pelting stones at the vehicle which damaged the front glass of the truck.

Police arrived at the accident site and started an investigation into the matter.
