Odisha: Live pangolin rescued in Deogarh, Wildlife smuggler held

Deogarh: A special squad of the District Police on Saturday rescued a live pangolin here in Odisha. It was informed by Deogarh SP Rajkishore Paikray in a presser at the District Police Head quarter today.

As per reports, wildlife smugglers were trying to finalize an illegal deal regarding pangolin smuggling at Jashipur area of Mayurbhanj district.

The special squad had kept a strict vigil on the illegal activities. After getting information today, the squad went to the spot in disguise of customer and conducted raid.

Under the leadership of SDPO Pratyush Kumar Mohapatra, the squad conducted the raid in the forest near Jhumpura village under Barkot Police limits.

The illegal deal was being done to sell a live pangolin with a sum of Rs. 15 lakh. The special squad conducted the raid and nabbed a wildlife smuggler named Dillip Nayak. A live pangolin weighting more than 7 kg was seized from the possession of the accused person.
