Odisha: Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar closed for public entry: Know why?

Bhubaneswar: The famous Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar has been restricted for public entry after a substantial number of Covid-19 positive cases found among the sebayats of the temple. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation issued an order on Sunday in this regard.

“In view of detection of substantial number of Covid-19 positive cases among the sebayats of Lord Shree Lingaraj Temple, Bhubaneswar and in larger public interest and with a view to contain the further spread of virus, the public entry to the Shree Lingaraj Temple is restricted until further order,” said an order by BMC.

However, the temple will be opened for usual rituals to be conducted by the sebayats only.

Also, the Ashokastami Car Festival, famously known as Rukuna Rath Jatra, will be observed with restrictions as per an order dated 9th April.

Reports say, 60 Sevayats tested yesterday, out of which four Sevayats tested positive for Covid 19 while result of the samples of 185 more Sevayats collected today is awaited.
