Odisha: Junior Engineer’s Horse Ride For Survey In Cut Off Areas Wins Many Hearts

Malkangiri: Dedication of a junior engineer working with the Rural Development Department in the Maoist infested areas in the district has won many hearts.

The engineer Prashant Kumar Behera, in a bid to boost connectivity is not even reluctant to take a horse ride to carry pit survey for construction of roads and bridges in the cut-off areas of the district.

Behera currently posted at Khairput Block has also been taking boat rides to reach inaccessible areas. “This area has remained inaccessible for years for which people are facing hardship. The hilly areas make life difficult for carrying out a survey. We don’t have any potion but to walk a distance to complete our job. Though I am not trained for horse riding, it has helped to expedite the survey process,” said Behera.

Locals said that the engineer has not only ignited their hopes of having better connectivity but also his desire to help them has forced them to assist him. “He often comes with clothes for our children. He has put aside the fear of working in areas which are known for Maoist activity. We are thankful to have a government official like him,” said a local.
