Odisha Journalists condemn killing of Gauri Lankesh

Gauri LankeshBhubaneswar:  Hundreds of Journalists, writers and social activists on Wednesday took out a protest march here over the brutal killing of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru last night.

Noted journalists Rabi Das, Kedar Mishra, Prafulla Das, Satya Prakash Naik, Sanghamitra Jena and others participated in the protest march in the capital city. They expressed their shock and anger over the killing of Gauri.

Talking to Kalinga TV, senior journalist Prafulla Das said, “Gauri Lankesh has been killed for raising genuine voice in the larger interest of the society. The gruesome killing of a free thinker is not a good sign for a healthy democracy.”

“Time has come for the journalists, writers and free thinkers across the country to stand united and fight for justice,” he added.

Another journalist Arjun Muduli said, “Gauri Lankesh lives on in our hearts. She was killed for her outspoken views. The culprits have to be nabbed at the earliest and given exemplary punishment.”

55-year-old Gauri was found lying in a pool of blood at the doorstep of her Rajarajeshwari Nagar’s residence in the capital city of Karnataka.  She was shot in the head and chest by gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle.

Gauri was the editor of popular Kannada tabloid Lankesh Patrike founded by her father and well-known writer P Lankesh.

Meanwhile, the State government has formed three teams comprising of senior police officers to investigate the crime.
