Nabarangpur: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday apprehended a Junior Engineer of Papadahandi Block in Nabarangpur district while she was allegedly accepting bribe of Rs. 20,000. However, during the Vigilance raid tension gripped the area as locals claimed that the concerned JE is innocent and she has been intentionally trapped.
As per reports, Binapani Behera, Junior Engineer (JE), Papadahandi Block, Dist-Nabarangpur was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs.20,000/- from a complainant for facilitating payment of bill Rs.2,25,000/- in connection with a road improvement work under MGNREGS.
Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid today wherein the accused JE was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance in her residential Govt. quarter near Block office, Papadahandi while demanding and accepting undue advantage. The bribe money was reportedly recovered from the possession of the JE and seized.
As per reports, the complainant as per direction of Behera kept the tainted bribe money on her cot.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential Govt. quarter of Behera and her office chamber at Papadahandi.
Apart from it, Rs.3,13,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh Thirteen Thousand) has been recovered from residential Govt. quarter of the JE during house search.
She has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Koraput Vigilance P.S. Case No.26 dated 13.12.2021 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
However, tension arose on the spot when the Vigilance sleuths were taking the JE for further investigation. The locals gheroed the Govt vehicle and claimed that the JE is innocent and she has been trapped in lieu of a false complaint.
