Odisha Hikes Stipend Of House Surgeons Of Govt Medical Colleges

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday announced a hike in the monthly stipend of the house surgeons of the state-run medical colleges from Rs 20,000 to Rs 28,000.

The hike will be effective from January 1, 2021 and will be in force for a period of three years.

The move came after the medicos of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur and Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla threatened agitations over the demand for hike in stipend amount.

In a letter to the Director Medical Education and Training (DMET), the Deputy Secretary of Health and Family Welfare wrote,”The government have been pleased to enhance the monthly stipend of the House Surgeons of the government Medical Colleges of the State from Rs 20 000 to Rs. 28.000/- per month. This enhancement will be effective from 01.01 2021 and will prevail for a period of three years. The expenditure to this effect shall be met from the budget provision made under appropriate Head of Account for respective Medical College & Hospitals.”
