Odisha heatwave: 12 places record temperature above 40 degrees Celcius

Bhubaneswar: As many as 12 places in Odisha recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celcius, informed the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the information provided by the Meteorological Centre (MeT) Bhubaneswar, Sonepur was the highest at 42.2 degrees Celcius followed by Angul which sizzled at 43.10°C.

Jharsuguda, Balangir, Boudh, and Paralakhemundi witnessed a maximum temperature of 42.9°C, 42.4°C, 42°C, and 41°C respectively. Likewise, Baripada at 40°C, Sambalpur at 40.8°C, Hirakud at 40.3°C, Bhawanipatna at 40.6°C, Titlagarh at 40.5°C, and Chatrapur at 40°C.

The twin cities Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 38.6°C and 38.1°C respectively.

Notably, the weather department has issued a yellow warning and predicted thunderstorms with lightning for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, and Koraput districts from 8.30 AM on April 18 till 8.30 AM of April 19.
