Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced complete waive off the royalty on Sal leaves, a Minor Forest Produce (MFP), in Odisha.
The state government’s move will benefit about 25 lakh people engaged in related livelihood activities, the Chief Minister said.
At present, the royalty rate of Sal leaves is Rs 86 per quintal in the state.
In Odisha, people residing in forest areas, mostly from tribal communities, subsist on forest produce. They collect leaves of the Sal tree and stitch into plates as well as bowls, which are taken to markets for sale.
