Odisha Govt To Sell Onions At 227 Fair Price Shops At Subsidised Price

Bhubaneswar: State government has decided to open as many as 227 fair price shops in 30 districts for sale of onions at subsidised rates.

The state government swung into action after onion prices skyrocketed to Rs 100 per kg at several places including twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

As per the decision of the government, onion will be sold between Rs 50 and Rs 77 per kg at these fair price shops.

Traders in Chhatrabazar, Cuttack and Unit I daily market, Bhubaneswar attributed the price rise to fall in production and crop loss due to rain in Nasik in Maharastra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the major source of imports to the state.
