Odisha Govt Launches Boat Ambulance For Cut Off Riverine Areas

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha launched the boat ambulance service on Saturday, to help patients reach hospitals in remote and cut-off riverine areas.

The Odisha Government has spent Rs 5.40 crore for the Boat Ambulance project, which was launched at Batighar in Kendrapara. These boat ambulances will help patients to cross rivers, water bodies and reach the nearest Hospitals for treatment. The operational cost of the project would be around Rs 90 lakh per annum.

As per reports, boat ambulance service includes six boat ambulances and 60 jetties with the walkway. The 6 boat ambulances will add to the road fleet and will be part of the 108 ambulance service. Meanwhile, 2 boat ambulances have been allotted for Malkangiri, 2 for Kendrapara and 1 each for Koraput and Kalahandi.

While one Boat Ambulance has been launched in Kendrapara, the remaining 5 boat ambulances will be made operational in a phased manner, said an official statement released by the Government of Odisha.
