Odisha govt keeps its promise, gives Rs 50 lakh to family members of homeguard who died during COVID duty

Berhampur: Odisha government has kept its promise by giving Rs 50 lakh to the family members of the homeguard, a resident of Gorakhpur to Digapahandi in Ganjam district, who died during COVID duty last year.

The State government sanctioned the money to the family members of the deceased homeguard who has been identified as R. Narasingh Das from the Odisha Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (OCMRF).

According to reports, Narasingh Das was appointed at the COVID quarantine centre at Sidheswar village in Digapahandi Tehsil of Ganjam district. However, he came in contact with the virus on July 20, 2020 and died on July 22 while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The government announced to provide compensation to Narasingh’s family members after receiving his death report from the district administration and police department.

After the compensation money was sanctioned by the State government, Berhampur Superintendent (SP) Saravana Vivek called the wife of the deceased homegurd to his office yesterday and handed her over the cheque in the presence of her son.
