Odisha Govt Issues Notification, Relaxation In School Fees Directed

Bhubaneswar: The state government has issued the notification following a High Court order on the reduction of school fees. Private schools have been asked to waive fees as per the MoU on September 10.

On January 6, the Orissa High Court ruled in favor of all the cases. The state government had proposed to the High Court to reduce fees in seven slabs.

During the hearing of the case on September 1, the High Court ordered a settlement. A joint meeting of the state government’s education department, school authorities, teachers unions and the parents federation was held on the orders of the High Court.

The state government’s chief secretary had urged schools to reduce school fees. A positive report was presented at the meeting and a report from the government was presented to the High Court on the outcome of the meeting.

According to the MoU signed with the school authorities, there will be no waiver for students who pay Rs 6,000 per annum. 7.5 per cent to 6,000 to 12,000, 12 per cent to 12,000 to 28,000, 15 per cent to 24,000 to 8,000, 20 per cent to 9,000 to 42,000, 25 per cent to 42,000 to 100,000 and 28 per cent to 24 per cent.

The government agreed to reduce it and submitted the report to the High Court on September 28. The state government has asked the schools to implement the MoU.
