Odisha Govt hikes Anganwadi workers’ salary

NaveenBhubaneswar: Hours after his meeting, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik increased the salary of the agitating Anganwadi workers on Tuesday.

According to Patnaik’s declaration, the Anganwadi workers will now get Rs 6000 per month, Mini Anganwadi workers to get Rs 4125 while the helpers will get Rs 3000.

The government will provide the salary from the Chief Minister’s relief fund.

This apart, the state government will also provide them insurance coverage for health, life, disability and scholarships. The government shall bear the premium cost.

“My government has always kept the interest of the Anganwadi workers, helpers and mini anganwadi workers as a priority. They have a significant role in taking care of the women and children. I am pleased to announce that the state government has decided to enhance their salary,” said Naveen while speaking to the reporters.

The CM also extended his Diwali wish to the people of the state. “I would like to wish everyone a very happy Diwali,” he added.

The Anganwadi workers were in an indefinite dharna at the Lower PMG square for the last 36 days.

A group of them had met the Chief Minister at the state Secretariat today and submitted their 17 point charter of demand requesting him to consider their case on an urgent basis.
