Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday ordered compulsory retirement to eight officials on grounds of corruption and inefficiency across departments.
Reportedly, the officials issued premature retirement by the state government include three OAS officers, one government engineer, two child development officers, Deputy Excise Superintendent, and a Block office Cashier.
Former Tehsildar of Nimapara and Sub-Registrar OAS officer Ramachandra Jena is among the eight retired officers who has three corruption charges against him. During his search, the Anti-Corruption Department seized Rs 5 lakh along with multiple PAN cards followed by his suspension.
Similarly, Former Deputy Collector of Jagatsinghpur OAS Officer Gouranga Charan Mohanty have also been given compulsory retirement. He has seven corruption charges against him. Another Former Tehsildar of Sundargarh’s Lathikata and current BDO of Bargarh’s Ambabhona OAS officer Alphonse Bilung is also in the list of 8 officials.
Former superintending engineer of the Baitarani Division of Keonjhar Irrigation Department Bidhan Chandra Sahu has been charged with corruption. His property was raided and a large amount of disproportionate asset was found.
Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of the Integrated Child Development Scheme Mina Patra at Bishwanathpur in Kalahandi’s Lanjigarh has been given compulsory retirement. He was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Department on October 8, 2021 while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from two self-help groups. It is estimated that his total assets will be around Rs 1.80 crore.
Similarly another CDPO of Integrated Child Development Scheme Puspanchali Rath is another who is given retirement. She was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Department while accepting a bribe demanding Rs 1 lakh for the employment of an activist.
Former Deputy Excise Superintendent of Deogarh Ajit Kumar Mohapatra, who works under the Odisha Excise Department has been given compulsory retirement today. He was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Department on September 24, 2021 while taking a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Lastly, a cashier in Tihidi block of Bhadrak district Prabhakar Pradhan took a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from various stakeholders. He has two corruption charges against him.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the above stated officers were given compulsory retirement on the grounds of corruption and dereliction of duty. The state government has so far asked 130 officials to go on compulsory retirement citing their involvement in corrupt practices.
