Odisha govt begins process of reopening of Puri & Major Temples

Bhubaneswar: The state government has directed temple administrations of Puri and other major temples of state under endowment to prepare plan of action for opening temples for worshippers adhering to Covid-19 regulations.

In a tweet on Thursday, Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy directed the chief administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and other major temples under endowment to prepare an action plan for devotees to visit shrines with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.

The Chief Secretary said that the respective Collectors will submit report after consultation with all stake holders in next 10 days.

The sevayats of major temples in Odisha had requested the government to allow reopening of the temples. As they run their family with the money donated by the devotees.

The temples in state including the Jagannath Temple in Puri have been closed since six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
