Odisha Govt Announces Transport Allowance For School Students

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Sunday announced transport allowance to students of primary and upper primary schools in remote areas of the state. Students covering a distance of more than 1 km to attend classes in primary schools and over 3 km to attend classes in upper primary schools will be eligible to get the financial aid.

According to a notification issued by the Odisha School and Mass Education Department, a transport allowance of Rs 600 per month will be given to students having minimum attendance of 75 per cent or above, Rs 400 to students having 50 per cent to 74 per cent attendance and Rs 300 to students having 30 percent to 50 percent attendance. If a  student’s attendance is less than 30 per cent, he will not be eligible for the allowance.

The notification informed that the travel allowance will be given to students through a payee cheque or DBT. However, the allowance amount will not exceed Rs 6000 per year. Students of primary and upper primary schools in urban areas belonging to the extremely deprived group will also receive the travel allowance.
