Odisha Govt allows DGP Abhay to retire from service on Dec 31

Bhubaneswar: The State of Odisha is set to get a new DGP in the New Year as Odisha government today allowed the Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay to retire from service with effect from December 31, 2021.

“Shri Abhay, IPS, Director General of Police, Odisha is allowed to retire from Government Service w.e.f 31.12.2021 on completion of his tenure as Head of Police Force (HoPF),” reads a notification issued by the Home Department, Government of Odisha on Wednesday.

It is to be noted that tenure of DGP Abhay was till June 2021. However, the State Government was pleased to extend the same for another six months. Accordingly, he was allowed to retire on coming December 31.

On the other hand process has already begun for selection and appointment of the new DGP. The State government has sent a list of 12 personnel to the Central government. The said list contains names including Pradeep Kapoor, Sunil Kumar Bansal, Manoj Chhabra and Santosh Upadhyay. Out of them three names will be chosen by the Central Commission and the State Government will select one of them.
