Odisha Government relaxes ‘Pollution Under Check’ norm for a month

Bhubaneswar: In a sigh of relief for commuters bearing the brunt of hefty fines under the newly introduced Motor Vehicle (MV) Act, Odisha Government today relaxed the ‘Pollution Under Check (PUC)’ norm under it for a month.

Defaulters had to pay Rs 10,000 for violating the PUC norm mentioned in the amended MV Act.

Informing on the decision Odisha Transport Secretary G Srinivasan said, the decision has been taken to give more time to people to get their vehicles checked and collect the certificate.

Due to the PUC norm, serpentine queues were being spotted at pollution checking centres in the city for past couple of days.

Prior to the introduction of the new rule, defaulters were paying Rs 1,000 on the first violation and Rs 2,000 subsequently as fine.
