Odisha government announces agri-loan at 1% interest for landless farmers

Bhubaneswar: Carrying forward its welfare measures ahead of the next election, the Odisha Government today announced sanction of agriculture loan to the landless farmers at the rate of only one per cent interest sans any securities.

Informing on the decision, the State Food supplies, Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Minister Surjya Narayan Patro said, the loan would be provided to landless farmers who take up agricultural tasks in other people’s farmland on sharecropping basis.

“Landless farmers could avail a loan of maximum Rs 50,000 by forming a Joint Liability Group (JLG) of five members. The loan would be provided in line with the provision underway for Self Help Groups (SSGs) operating across the state. This loan will be provided through various cooperative banks and societies,” informed Patro.

The farmers covered under the new provision will be provided with various farming tools at a lower rent along with a choice to sell off their produce directly to the government, as per the decision.

Similarly, in another new provision the women street vendors in the state would now be entitled to avail a loan of upto Rs 30,000 to develop their business.
