Tangi: In a hilarious turn of events, a gold chain snatcher was nabbed and given proper thrashing by locals after his motorbike ran out of petrol while he was trying to escape after snatching a gold chain from a woman.
Luckily, his associate got off the bike and ran away. The accused was beaten black and blue before being handed over to the police.
The incident occurred while the woman was sitting inside a car parked near Chilika Dhaba on Khurda-Balugaon bypass Highway-16.
The two bike-borne miscreants stopped next to her car and sped away after snatching her gold chain. However, their motorbike ran out of fuel near Badakul Market when villagers caught hold of one of them and gave him proper thrashing while another managed to escape.
On being informed, Naval outpost officer reached the spot and launched a probe. The accused taken into police custody and the motorbike used in the chain snatching was seized.
The rise in the number of loots and chain-snatching on the Highway has become a matter of concern for locals and commuters. Three such incidents of loot have been reported in just one week, sources said.
