Bhubaneswar: A 24-year-old girl has been left battling for life after she reportedly consumed poison at Balipatna area here in Khurda district on Sunday. The girl allegedly took the drastic step after hearing the news of her lover’s marriage.
According to sources, the girl, who is a native of Somana Sasan village, was in a relationship with one Gopal Behera (40), son of Kailash Behera of the same village. However, there were some misunderstandings between the lovebirds over some issues.
It is alleged that the girl fell in love with Gopal, against whom she had once leveled allegation of rape attempt. He was also beaten up by her family members and was sent to jail.
However, the girl went to the local police station with her parents today to lodge a complaint after learning that Gopal was getting married elsewhere. Besides, she consumed the poison that she had carried with her.
Cops rescued her and admitted her to Balipatna Community Health Centre (CHC). After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar where her condition is stated to be critical.
On the other hand, Gopal’s father accused the girl of luring his son into a relationship and her family members attacked him brutally after taking him to an isolated place.
Meanwhile, the girl’s mother claimed that Gopal had kept physical relationship with her daughter.
The local police is said to have started an investigation into the matter.
