Balasore: A girl allegedly committed suicide in Tuta village under Khaira police limits in Soro town of Balasore district in Odisha on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Behera, daughter of Bharat Chandra Behera of the village.
According to reports, Sasmita fell in love with one Ratikanta Shial, son of Niranjan Shial of Bhatpada village under Makhanpur panchayat, a year ago.
Ratikanta promised to marry her and maintained physical relationship with her. After a few days of the secret love affair, Sasmita lost her mental balance as Ratikanta refused to marry her.
In spite of their repeated counselling, she took the step to end her life as she realised that she has been betrayed. Her family members had arranged her wedding elsewhere.
Sasmita locked herself in the room when all her family members were asleep and apologised her parents by writing a note on her palm before hanging herself.
Her paternal uncle has lodged a complaint with the Khaira police and has requested for a strict action against the alleged accused.
The Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of the Khaira police station arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation on the matter.
