Odisha: Forest Guard, Civil Supply Official in Vigilance net

Sundergarh/ Koraput: The Vigilance department on Wednesday conducted raids at the residence and four other places belonging to Manoranjan Mohanty, Forest Guard of Koida range in Sundergarh district for amassing wealth disproportionate to the known source of income.

The Vigilance team, under the guidance of SP (vigilance wing) Swarup Kumar Parida, also conducted raids at Mohanty’s office and residences of his father in law.

They seized bank passbooks along with huge amount of money, gold ornaments, a car and other valuable properties during the operation.

However, the total valuation of seized property yet to be ascertained, a vigilance official said.

In another case, Vigilance sleuths arrested Koraput district civil supplies officer Ballav Chandra Das on Tuesday night while accepting Rs 50,000 bribe from a miller to clear pending bills.

Sources said, Das had demanded the bribe to clear pending bills of Rs 22 lakh from a miller P. Sannamukha Babu.

Based on Babu’s complaint, Vigilance officials of Koraput division made a trap and conducted a surprise raid at the office of the supplies official and caught him red handed while accepting bribe from the miller.
