Odisha flyover collapse: 1 arrested, hunt on for 3 absconding directors

bridge collapseBhubaneswar: Acting against officials of the guilty construction company in the Bomikhal flyover collapse mishap on Sunday, which killed one person and left 12 others injured, the Commissionerate Police arrested the Deputy Executive Engineer of Panda Infra Bansidhar Praharaj today.

Police Commissioner YB Khurania said cases have been registered against Panda Infra’s Assistant Engineer Kishor Rout and three directors of the company, namely, Pratap Panda, Sujata Panda and Santosh Panda. As the director trio, along with the Assistant Engineer are on the run since the bridge collapse, police is conducting raids at various places in the state to nab them, he added.

Khurania, who did not rule out issuing of a “lookout circular” against the accused, informed that cases under Sections 284, 304, 337, 338 and 34 of IPC have been lodged against them at the Laxmisagar Police Station.

Earlier in the day, a forensic team visited the site of the mishap as [art of the high-level probe team formed by the CM Naveen Patnaik yesterday, which started its investigation into the bridge collapse incident today. The team is expected to submit its report within a week.

Meanwhile, levelling a serious allegation against the state government, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra claimed that it is not serious in probing the incident as the director trio of the construction company got a chance to abscond due to the delay in action by the police.
