Odisha: Five Policemen Suspended After Rape Accused Escaped For The Third Time

Nayagarh: The Nayagarh superintendent of police (SP) today suspended five personnel, including a havildar in connection with the escape of a rape accused on Friday.

The accused identified as Tapan Rout of Fatehgarh police limit area in the district has escaped for the third time in the last four months.

Rout who was arrested on charges of rape of a minor girl jumped off moving court van while being taken to the court from Khandapada sub-jail.

Police said that the five suspended police personnel were deployed as guards for escorting and production of Rout from Khandapada sub-jail to Bhapur court.

Rout had also earlier run away from the jail on May 10 for the first time while he also managed to escape from custody on August 3 for the second time.
