Odisha: Five Brokers Arrested From VIMSAR In Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Police today arrested as many as five touts from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in the district for allegedly diverting patients to private clinics.

The accused have been identified as Darasingh Luha, Ashok Bag, Amit Kumbhar, Kailash Suna and Laba Sendria.

Police said that the accused used to get 10 to 20 percent of commission for sending patients to other nursing homes and diagnostic centres. “The brokers used to persuade patients and attendants especially coming from far off places to private clinics,” said a police official.

Earlier on Wednesday Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has instructed to make hospitals free of middlemen. Following the direction of the Chief Minister, Capital Police in Bhubaneswar have also arrested four brokers from government-run Capital Hospital.
